By Courtney Owen / Athletic Therapy
A major misconception people may have about athletic therapy is that it only applies to athletes due to the word ‘athletic’ being in the title. Athletic therapy is applicable to all demographics, it doesn’t matter your age, gender, athletic ability, or level of participation in sports or daily activities. It just may be the right fit for you or someone you know!
Before seeking out treatment it’s important to understand what an athletic therapist does, and what falls within their scope of practice, and why seeing an athletic therapist might be the right fit for you.
Athletic therapists training requires quick thinking in emergency care. Because of this ability, athletic therapists can be found as emergency responders on the sidelines of several different sporting events. They are experts in injury assessment, injury prevention and rehabilitation for all levels of athletes.
They can also be found in a clinical settings due to their expansive knowledge and understanding in musculoskeletal injuries. They are responsible for treating a wide range of injuries through the use of manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription, along with bracing and taping.
If you are needing rehabilitation from a sport, treatment for a repetitive strain injury from work, or simply want to improve your exercise routine, an athletic therapist will have a treatment plan specific to your needs.
The overall goal for all athletic therapists is to get individuals back to physical activity as soon, safely and as effectively as possible.
